So the upgrade actually worked

Filed under: Technology — Allan @ 11:19 am

Vista is now running on my PC notebook, in all it’s glossy reflective glory. On first viewing I thought “cute” – semi-transparent bits and window animations. The first thing I tried was Launchy, and that failed to start. Which is a pity as it is my Quicksilver security blanket when working on a PC. A quick download and install of the latest version fixed that, but of course now that all the file locations of things like the Start menu have moved, it doesn’t find any of my applications. I’m sure a quick config edit will fix that though. So now it’s a matter of wading through all the applications that Vista bitched at me wouldn’t run any longer, and removing them. It’s mostly the stuff that came with the notebook, like Sonic DVD burner and that sort of thing. Oh and removing Office 2003 in favour of 2007. I guess that’s the one drawback of upgrading and not creating a fresh install. Fresh install’s make me happy.
