Church of Scientology, meet the remix culture

Filed under: Uncategorized — Allan @ 2:59 pm

Yesterday I managed to watch the Tom Cruise Scientology video before it got yanked off Youtube by their lawyers.

Better than that though it seems that those clever people who love remixing video content snagged themselves an offline copy and have been hard at work.

I couldn’t find it on Youtube, so you’ll have to head over to PerezHilton.com to check it out:

If you can’t get enough of his maniacal laugh, head on over to Youtube.

we’ll be back….

Filed under: Uncategorized — Allan @ 9:24 am

Wow, it’s been a month since I last posted anthing. But work being such that it is, there’s not a whole lot of time left in the day to think of something clever to write here :)

So here I am trying to organise my day, and I get presented with this:

we’ll be back soon

Which got me thinking. What would happen if facebook suddenly just dissapeared off the internet? Here one day, gone the next. In the last few weeks I’ve reconnected with a load of people through facebook that I haven’t spoken to in 15 years. Granted, I probably would have gotten by without reconnecting with them again, but there are some that I was trying to get back in contact with. If facebook suddenly went away, not only would I lose that point of contact, but what’s turned out to be a damn handy tool would also be taken away. And it’s not just social networking tools. It’s all online tools. facebook, basecamp, gmail. Imagine if gmail went away. Sounds like a job for the facebook API to get all my friends details into something that I can backup :)

Politically correct…

Filed under: Uncategorized — Allan @ 7:49 pm

I was scanning the Wikipedia artical on brainstorming now and discovered this little gem under the section titled “Political Correctness”:

Recently the term ‘brainstorm’ has been considered politically incorrect as it can cause offense to people with epilepsy. Favoured terms include thought shower or word shower.

Doesn’t quite have the same ring to it… “Right guys, word shower in meeting room 2, let’s go!”

SQLite3: Database of Champions

Filed under: Uncategorized — Allan @ 9:37 pm

I’ve spent a fair amount of time playing with SQLite in the past, and found that it is suprisingly nippy for a database that runs from a single file on your filesystem. I’ve used it succesfully both in it’s traditional form as an actual database, and in a somewhat non-traditional fashion as an in-memory database to make sure that the 1000’s of codes I was generating were unique.

I’ve written before about how Mail.app stores all of its mail in an SQLite database, and so I wasn’t really suprised to find that iGTD uses an SQLite database to store all of its data as well.
